A memorial flower garden was created in honor of MMS teacher, Mrs. Elisha Behrman, who passed away earlier this year. Many staff members pitched in to use mostly reclaimed materials and school colors to create the memorial. Students and staff brought in so many wonderful varieties of flowers for the garden. Students from many classes helped plant the flowers. A painted rock garden is being placed next to the flower garden for students to decorate rocks with positive messages and images. Some seating options (to also be made from reclaimed materials) are in the works for students and staff to be able to sit and enjoy the space. 6th grade social studies teacher, Mr. Hilpert helped coordinate the project. He appreciates that this was a true team effort from staff and students to come together in honor of a beloved staff member. Additional projects are being discussed to also honor her.

Mascoutah Middle School celebrated the "Week of the Military Child" with a schoolwide assembly. The assembly included the High School AFJROTC presenting the Colors, the Mascoutah Middle School band playing the National Anthem, contest winners for a drawing, writing and coloring contest, and a slideshow of students and staff connected to the Military. This was a great way for MMS to celebrate and honor our students and their families for their service and sacrifice for our country.

Today MMS celebrated EARTH DAY! The sixth grade had a ‘Whale’ of a good time. Mr. Amann and Mrs. Jackson and the entire sixth grade class participated in “Entering the Environmental Whale”. Students got to go into the giant whale (the length of a basketball court), and discuss ways to limit ocean pollution and how to save our planet. Remember, the Earth is something we all have in common.

Mrs. Jackson's 6th grade science class just completed an Engineering Design Project. The students learned about the process needed for an engineer or designer to create an invention or innovation by designing a piece of furniture. Student Engineers understood the problem that they needed to solve as well as the criteria and constraints that they had to meet. They used a design brief to identify the problem, the expectations, and the constraints. Then they built their piece of furniture. #19EveryStudent
