May 27th,  2020 - Final Newsletter of 2019 - 2020

Have a Safe Summer….We Will See You in the Fall

Engaging every student...every day!

Dear Parents / Guardians and Students,

The 2019 - 2020 Academic School Year has come to an end. It did not end how we wanted or how we imagined. This summer students are encouraged to self-study in, for example, Khan Academy and/or do some reading. Go on YouTube and learn a skill, craft or how to play an instrument. Find time to relax away from video games and with video games. Go outside and soak up some vitamin D. We have missed you and we will miss you over the summer.

This summer the office is open from 7:30 to 3:00pm through July 31st. The office will be closed June 25th - July 7th. Other than those days, if you think you forgot something in your locker or need something from your PE locker (starting after June 1st), please feel free to come by the school. We do ask guests coming into the school to please wear a mask.

The 2020 - 2021 Academic School Year, when we return, is likely to hold some surprises and changes for us. Not just at school but in society as the ramifications of COVID and the possible return of COVID will likely continue to impact us in ways we do not yet know nor can predict. That said, we will have school and students will learn. We will work and we will play. Life goes on but life is all about change and adapting to the changes that come our way. We are a community and it is only together that we can successfully face the curve balls that are occasionally thrown our way.

I would like to thank our students and families for the heroic efforts that I witnessed and heard about during this time of remote learning. I would like to thank our teachers who worked hard to deliver instruction. We will work this summer to discover better ways to engage students in remote learning. I am also asking students to reflect on how they could have better engaged or more successfully engaged in remote learning. Together we can accomplish great things.

Thank you again and have a great summer!

Respectfully,

Mr. Paolo Dulcamara

UPDATED PHYSICAL AND IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION

School Board Policy 7:100 requires parents provide new and updated physical and/or immunization forms by the first day of school for PreK, Kindergarten, 6th, 9th and 12th grade students.  For the 2020-2021 school year, families are encouraged to meet these requirements as best they can.  If these requirements cannot be met as we recover from the restrictions due to COVID 19, we will work with families by extending the deadline and not impose exclusion from school until October 15.

Important Dates:

  • June 25 - July 7 - MMS School Offices are closed

    • Office Hours - 7:30am to 3:00pm

Locker Items:

If you need something from your PE locker or did not clean out your academic locker, you may come by the school between 8am and 3pm to pick up items. If you still need to turn in a textbook or library book you can come by as well. Please wear a mask if entering the building.

Library Books:

Make sure you do not get charged for a missing Library Book. There are still over 200 books that were not turned in during our locker clean-out days. Bring them by the Office any day during office hours.

Textbooks:

If you did not come for locker clean-out or forgot to turn in any textbooks when you did, please get them turned in at the Office during office hours so that you are not charged for a missing textbook.

Chromebooks and chargers:

If you are an 8th grader who is NOT taking a summer school class or you are a student leaving the District, and did NOT turn in your Chromebook, please do so during our office hours to the MMS Office. Do not get charged for a Chromebook or charger.

Yearbooks:

We have not heard from the company regarding an arrival date. Due to COVID shutdowns of non-essential businesses there has been a clear delay on Yearbooks. When the school is informed and a plan is finalized on getting Yearbooks out, that information will be shared with MMS families.
