Kristin Staten

Welcome to Ms. Staten's 6th grade reading class!  I am looking forward to a wonderful journey this school year.  We will begin the year with several short stories that introduce and build upon several reading skills.

This fall, we will discover lost treasures, beautiful palaces, and look through pyramids as we begin to read various genres.

Continuing the tradition here at MMS, we will take a journey with Mr. Charles Dickens in November!  A thorough study will take place with his famous novel, A Christmas Carol.  The entire Ocelot hall will be transformed to an 1800s English town. Check out the following link to get a glimpse at the story:)

Our journey will continue through the year with valuable stories such as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  We will investigate space as well as Titanic stories.  You may need to send tissue for the classic novel study, Where the Red Fern Grows!  For many parents, it has been a while since reading these stories.  The spark notes website can help to refresh your memory.  The website can also assist students with the plot, characters, and other features we will cover in class.

Whew! It is a good thing we don't have to pack for this journey!  Let's have a wonderful year!  Click here for the curriculum map.
